Lafayette Crosses Sponsor Louise Clark goes to trial 7/28/08; her agents accused of corruption

Louise Harvey Clark, prominent East Bay peace activist, spends thousands of dollars to promote peace abroad, and millions of dollars to wage war at home. She sponsors the Lafayette Crosses - thousands of 4 foot tall, white crosses to commemorate each U.S. service member acknowledged by the U.S. government to have been killed in action in Iraq. These crosses stand on the block-long hillside she owns which faces the Lafayette BART Station.

Eighty three year old Louise Clark presides over a one hundred million dollar real estate empire. The agents who run it for her are her sons - Steve and Charles Clark. Steve and Charles control real estate and other assets for their mother, their siblings, and Louise’s grandchildren. Four of Louise’s descendants have alleged that Steve and Charles don’t exercise their fiduciary duties in a way that benefits other Clarks.

The first of a series of Clark business corruption trials is scheduled to begin on July 28 in Martinez. The primary allegation in this trial is that Steve Clark misappropriated the college funds of his niece and nephew - Acacia and Ian Clark. Acacia and Ian both graduated from Acalanes High School in Lafayette; Ian was Acalanes student body President in 2004. Both of these Louise Clark grandchildren suffered economic deprivation and emotional distress because their uncle Steve deprived them of their college funds. All of the Clarks named above are witnesses in the trial that starts July 28.

Louise’s daughter, Diddo Clark, a Lafayette attorney who is not a July trial party or witness, says that: “For approximately the past 10 years, Steve Clark has been manager of 4 Clark businesses and trustee of 8 Clark trusts - but, on information and belief, no one (including Louise Clark) whose assets have been controlled by Steve Clark has ever benefited thereby. Steve and Charles Clark have undue influence over Louise, have benefited disproportionately thereby, and appear to be engaged in financial elder abuse.”

The cases to be tried in July are In Re Acacia Z. Clark Education Trust (P06-006613) and In Re Ian A. Clark Education Trust (P06-006614). Acacia and Ian Clark are represented by Tom Blomberg of Shapiro, Buchman, Provine and Patton in Walnut Creek. Louise, Steve, and Charles Clark are represented by Gregg Brandt of Wendel, Rosen, Black & Dean in Oakland.

LOUISE CLARK IS A LAFAYETTE LIVING TREASURE. She is responsible for the fact that Contra Costa County built a model jail in Martinez rather than the mini-San-Quentin-prison which Sheriff Ramsey proposed around 1970; she co-founded the Lafayette Nursery School and the Lamorinda Democratic Club; she was an original member of the League of Women Voters of Diablo Valley; and she made innumerable other community contributions.

Louise’s husband, JOHNSON CLARK, who died in 2007, was a universally respected building contractor, Boy Scout leader, and athlete. Louise said that he was the most honest man she ever met. Diddo refers to her father as “the Reasonable Man.” State Senator TOM TORLAKSON and Assembly Member LONI HANCOCK celebrated his life with legislative proclamations.

Louise and Johnson’s daughter, CANDI CLARK, was the first American World Champion in White Water Kayaking. Candi was Captain of the 1976 U.S. Olympic Canoe/Kayak Team. She married Apple Computer inventor STEVE WOZNIAK in her parents‘ Lafayette backyard. Apple Computer cofounder STEVE JOBS was Best Man. EMMY LOU HARRIS provided music at their reception. All 3 of Steve Wozniak’s children - one of whom is a NASA rocket scientist - are Louise and Johnson Clark’s grandchildren.

For further information, please see the public court files or contact any party or attorney in the case. To help, please encourage Louise Clark to get an outside evaluation of the performance of her attorneys and other agents. Her contact information is: (925) 299-0900 and LouiseClark@comcast.net

Respectfully submitted,

Verification. I declare, under penalty of perjury, that: I am not a party to, or a witness in, the cases scheduled for trial on July 28; there is no chance that anything I said, above, will prejudice an adjudicative proceeding in the matter; all, or substantially all, of what I said, above, is in public court files in Martinez; Louise Clark has admitted, in a declaration on file in Martinez, that she is a public figure; she has probably written more letters to the editor of the Contra Costa Times than anyone else; she has appeared on television and in other media, many times, in conjunction with her Lafayette Crosses; and everything I say above is true.
